The MThe 3 E9X is considered by many to be one of the best. M-vehicles BMW Motorsport has ever built. 420 hp from the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter engine. S65 V8, 8,300 rpm rev range, iconic high-revving V8 sound. But what BMW has removed from the car through factory soundproofing is an acoustic crime against the... S65.

The GRAIL valve exhaust system puts an end to that. It transforms the subdued OEM sound into what BMW wanted. M The intended effect: an aggressive, screaming V8 sound with full revving presence and the distinctive GRAIL delta between loud and quiet. Anyone who owns an E9X-MAnyone driving a 3 is looking for exactly this sound – and will find it here.

Completely made of L304 stainless steel, handcrafted in Germany. ECE type approval means: no registration required in all EU vehicles with standard approval. Ready to drive immediately after installation.

Flap control – electric flaps with OEM operating concept

The MThe E9X engine does not come with exhaust flap control as standard. GRAIL therefore supplies the flaps directly – as electric flaps (not as a vacuum-operated version). During installation, the flaps are wired once; afterwards, they can be operated in the same way as BMW drivers are used to:

• In Sport mode, the flaps open fully – full GRAIL sound.
• In Comfort mode they remain closed – discreet and ECE-compliant

No remote control, no alteration to the interior design. You operate the system like anything else on your M3 – via the factory-set driving modes.

Configuration in the configurator

Before ordering, you select the following factors:

• Body: E90 sedan, E92 coupe or E93 convertible (each with its own system)
• Tailpipe color: brushed stainless steel or black

The three body styles have different rear ends and therefore different exhaust system geometries – each is a separate physical product. If in doubt, simply send us your VIN via WhatsApp or contact form, and we'll check the correct version for you.

Material & Construction

LMade entirely of 304 stainless steel, with CNC-precision machined components. The silencers were specially tuned in the GRAIL sound lab to the V8's characteristic sound. SThe 65-motors are tuned – high-revving, full in the midrange, and present in the treble. The electric flaps, made of solid stainless steel, switch precisely and remain reliable even after years of use.

Registration-free thanks to ECE type approval – applies to all EU vehicles with standard registration. For imported vehicles with a different operating permit, please check registration requirements before ordering. The ECE type approval certificate should be kept in the vehicle's glove compartment.
