The Golf 7 R facelift (model years 2017–2020) marks the end of a generation that many tuning enthusiasts still consider the best R series. 310 hp, all-wheel drive, DSG transmission – and with the GRAIL 3.5" flap exhaust system, finally the sound that truly lives up to the R character. What VW acoustically holds back, GRAIL unleashes uncompromisingly: voluminous 2.0 TSI power in Sport mode, subtle in cruising, and crisp backfires during load changes.

LMade of 304 stainless steel, handcrafted in Germany, with ECE type approval – meaning it's registration-free for all EU vehicles. The 3.5-inch diameter offers room for stage upgrades and software optimization without pushing the system to its limits.

Flap control – factory-installed

The Golf 7 R facelift comes standard with its own exhaust flap control – the GRAIL system takes over this completely. You continue driving your R with the familiar driving modes and without any changes to the interior:

• In Race or Sport mode, the flaps open fully – full GRAIL sound.
• In Comfort or Eco mode, they remain closed – discreet and ECE-compliant.

No remote control, no additional module, no modification to the wiring harness. Plug-and-play connection to the OEM exhaust flap control of your Golf 7 R Facelift.

Downpipe connection – stock or HJS

• A series: Standard choice for Golf 7 R Facelift with factory downpipe. The GRAIL is connected directly to the OEM downpipe.
• To HJS: For drivers with an installed HJS downpipe (typical for Stage 2 / Stage 3 setups). The GRAIL is manufactured with a compatible interface for HJS.

Tailpipes – 5 designs to choose from

When it comes to the rear end, you have a full range of options for the Golf 7 R facelift. Each variant adds a different touch:

• Double oval (165 × 100 mm) – stainless steel: Classic sporty design, two wide oval tailpipes in OEM-Plus look
• Double oval (165 × 100 mm) – Black: A subtle appearance, especially harmonious with the black package.
• 4-flow round (100 mm) – stainless steel: Four round tailpipes – maximum presence at the rear
• 4-flow round (100 mm) – Black: Four round tailpipes in matte black – aggressive and eye-catching.
• 4-flow round (100 mm) – Carbon: Four round tailpipes with genuine carbon fiber covering – premium look

Material & Construction

LMade entirely of 304 stainless steel, with CNC-precision machined components. The silencers were specially tuned in the GRAIL sound lab for the 2.0 TSI engine of the Golf 7 R facelift. Flow-optimized pipe routing minimizes exhaust backpressure. The carbon fiber tailpipe version uses high-quality, genuine carbon fiber sleeves – not imitations.

Swiss suitability assessment

Upon request, you can receive a Swiss suitability assessment for the GRAIL system for an additional fee. If interested, simply contact support.

Not suitable for: Golf 7 R pre-facelift (CJXC engine, separate system available in our shop), Golf 7 GTI (completely different engine code and exhaust system). Separate GRAIL systems are available for these models.

Information on admission

Registration-free thanks to ECE type approval – applies to all EU vehicles with standard registration. For imported vehicles with a different operating permit, please check registration requirements before ordering. The ECE type approval certificate should be kept in the vehicle's glove compartment.
